I know it’s only February, but expect Absolute Value to be one of the hardest hitting, most thought provoking albums to drop all year. Fans of Akrobatik can expect his sharpest performance to date, while those still unfamiliar with this Bostonite can at least anticipate the incredible guest list.
The Wake Your Daughter Up blog shows the title track love by mentioning “Absolute Value” in their top 10 for spins in February.
4. Akrobatik - Absolute Value
Yeah, I have this one here because of the J-Zone beat. It’s good to hear J behind the boards and Ak sounds good on his shit, would have liked to heard more.
They also go one to mention the album by saying:
“Then came some pretty dope guest appearances and some interesting producers and guests on the promos for “Absolute Value” and this album has exceeded my expectations once again.”
Boston’s pride Akrobatik gives us a run down of the best and worst sports moments of 2007, all while rapping. Akro is know for his daily “Sports Wrap-Up”, on Boston hip-hop radio station JAM’N 94.5. Video hooked up by Steven Stover.
Boston-based hip-hop artist Akrobatik has inked a deal with Raptivism/Imperial Records for distribution through Caroline/EMI. The label will be called PlayAktion Recordings, and will serve as an outlet for Akrobatik to release his back catalogue as well as new projects from artists to be signed starting in 2007.
With a huge catalogue of music dating back to 1998, as well as an ever-growing fanbase, the deal couldn’t have come at a better time for Akro. Through the services of Imperial, PlayAktion Recordings will be able to offer top notch recording quality, competitive marketing and promotional budgets, as well as in-house tour booking and photography.
This has been a busy 2006 for Akrobatik, who is also about to embark on a 30-city tour in preparation for an early 2007 release of his Fat Beats Records album, titled Absolute Value. The album will feature appearances from Little Brother, Bumpy Knuckles, Chuck D., B-Real, and Mr. Lif, among others. His 2005 effort as a member of the Perceptionists, Black Dialogue, was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 50 Records of the Year.
This video is by the AB’s (formerly Asamov). Their single “Supa Dynamite” features Perceptionist member Mr. Lif, and the video features a cameo from Akrobatik as well. The AB’s are responsible for production on the Balance and Black Dialogue LPs
The Perceptionists have been nominated for Hip-Hop Album of the Year at the 2006 Plug Awards at Webster Hall in NYC on February 2. This annual event honors the top independent artists in all genres of music. We will also be performing at the event.
So the Perceptionists fall tour is finally over, ending in Jacksonville on Thursday. After that, I rolled up to Tampa with the Asamov crew and did a special guest appearance with them at this fashion/art/music gig. Besides the awful sound, shit was dope. Then it was a weekend in Tampa coolin’ with the notorious Slopfunkdust. We had a blast, and it culminated in us going to the Talib Kweli/Jean Grae/Pharoah Monch show. To my surprise (and everyone else’s), Kweli called me up to rip a verse during his set! I can’t thank brother Kwe enough for doing that, and it was cool to catch up with Miss Grae and to meet the one and only Pharoah.
For those who don’t know, our tour DJ, Therapy, is in a group called Asamov. These cats are responsible for beats on the Balance and Black Dialogue LP’s, and their brand new album “And Now…” just dropped this week! Me and Lif are featured on there, as well as 9th Wonder, J-Live, and Wordsworth!
Run out and grab a copy today! And while you’re at it, re-stock on that Black Dialogue that ya cousin stole from you this summer!
